Rotary Club of Lancaster, at a glance…

Posted on : 09-11-2015 | By : Allan | In : News

Current membership: 27 members following the recent sad death of one long standing member.

What have we accomplished this year so far:

We have joined the District quiz and have won the first round.

We played Carnforth RC in the District Grey games and a gallant team lost – till the next time.

We had a hugely successful black tie – Casino Night for members and friends (over 40 people attended).

We have organised an Xmas social meal with partners

We run organised monthly walks followed by dinner.

We are again organising the local area Technology Tournament with planning for next March well advanced.

In September 2015 we chartered our fifth Rotakids school and recently held an event for all five schools to interact, exchange views and learn more about Rotary.

Planning for several days of cash collections in the City Centre on the run up to Xmas is on schedule. Planning is also well advanced for next April’s Lancaster RC’s Wrynose or Bust cycle event.

A wine tasting event to raise funds for Foundation is scheduled for 30th January 2016. Foundation giving and gift aid has also recently been promoted amongst members.

We are mentoring a Rotary Global scholar from Kenya who is sponsored by District 1070 (Reading) but attending Lancaster University.

Members manned a stand at Lancaster University fresher week to meet and speak to foreign students. We have arranged a number of visits by foreign students from both Lancaster & Cumbria (St Martin’s) universities to have a guided tour around the castle inclusive of food, socialising with members and then a guide of some of the city centre attractions (last one took place on Sunday 1st November 2015).

We have also sent people to the recent RYPEN and RYLA courses.

We have three club members on District committees (Philip on Finance, George on Foundation and Sheena actually organised the latest District RYPEN event).
